Our first Portland Frocktails Sponsor Spotlight is Seam Divas Sewing Lounge. Please visit our event sponsors, and thank them for making Portland Frocktails possible.

The Seam Divas Sewing Lounge is a fully-equipped sewing learning center located in Vancouver, Washington, complete with both vintage mechanical and cutting-edge computerized sewing machines, sergers, and a cover stitch machine. There is ample cutting and pressing space, cardboard tables for pattern alteration, and mirrors for fitting. Book and DVD resources are plentiful. Whether you are an experienced sewist or a beginner just dabbling in the art, you will appreciate the thoughtful setup and quality tools you will use during your time here.

Helen Bartley, Seam Divas Sewing Lounge owner, knows sewing. Perhaps more importantly, she is a lifelong student of sewing, and her empathetic teaching style is all the better for it. Helen is a Palmer/Pletsch Certified Sewing Instructor and Corporate Educator, and she co-teaches the Pants, Knits and Fit workshops in Portland, Ore., alongside Pati Palmer and Marta Alto. She served as technical editor for the Palmer/Pletsch book, “Knits for Real People,” and as contributor, garment sewer and model for both that book and the highly anticipated, “The Palmer/Pletsch Complete Guide to Fitting,” to be released in May. Helen learned sewing at age 6 at her mother’s knee and studied clothing construction and textiles at Eastern Washington University. In 2008 she founded the regionally groundbreaking Seam Divas Sewing Lounge, where she continues to teach classes. In 2016, she left her corporate job to teach sewing full-time. Helen is also a guitarist and singer-songwriter who occasionally performs in the Portland area.
